The Tasmanian Transport Museum Society was founded in the 1960s, with the museum finally opening to the public in 1983. The museum houses seven steam locomotives (two operational), three operational diesel locomotives, two operational diesel rail cars, seven carriages, three tram cars, two Hobart trolley buses, numerous goods wagons and other exhibits including buses, traction engines and other vehicles.
